Two DeKalb County police officers are in stable condition after being shot while responding to a domestic incident Sunday evening, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Three officers responded to an apartment complex at 2000 Bouldercrest Road around 6:19 p.m., the GBI said. When they arrived, they encountered Demontavious Soho, 26, of Atlanta, and began speaking with him.
Shortly after the conversation began, Soho pulled out a handgun and shot at the officers, hitting two of them, according to the GBI. One officer returned fire, striking Soho at least once. He then ran away.
Both wounded officers were taken to a hospital. DeKalb police initially described their condition as moderate and said they were expected to survive. The GBI said Monday that both were in stable condition.
Atlanta police officers later located and arrested Soho. He was taken to a hospital, where he remains in custody. Once released, he will be taken to the DeKalb County Jail and booked on charges of aggravated assault against a peace officer, the GBI said.
DeKalb police thanked partner agencies for helping take him into custody and asked for prayers for the wounded officers.
The GBI is conducting an independent investigation at the department's request. Once complete, the case file will be turned over to the DeKalb Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
